BS5837 Tree Survey

Local Authority planning application forms ask the questions:
  • Are there trees or hedges on the proposed development site?
And/or:
  • Are there trees or hedges on land adjacent to the proposed development site that could influence the development or might be important as part of the local landscape character?
If the answer to either of these questions is 'yes' then you may need to submit a tree survey with your application.
The information required in the survey includes details of species, size, age, physiological and structural condition and a grading in accordance with BS5837: Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction' .

Working with your architect or planning consultant we can survey the trees and produce a report that meets the specification and requirements of the Local Planning Authority.  Working with AutoCAD based software we can also provide the survey data in graphical (DWG) format suitable for inclusion as a layers within the design drawings.

For more complex developments you may also require an Arboricultural Implications Assessment (AIA), a Tree Protection Plan (TPP) and an Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS).  The AIA looks at the potential impact of the proposed development on the trees and the TPP and AMS set out the measures to protect the retained trees during development.
